Getting Started

Learn what Symbol is and how it works.

What is Symbol?

Symbol is a context management platform that turns temporary AI conversations into durable, structured knowledge. Save context from AI conversations as Capsules, organised into Types, so you never have to retype the same information across sessions, tools, or team members.

Key Concepts

Capsules

A capsule is a single piece of saved context: a solution, a decision, a code snippet, a prompt, or anything else worth reusing. Each capsule gets a human-friendly reference ID like @docker/3 so you can reference it from other capsules or AI conversations.

Types

Types are categories that define how capsules are structured. Each Type carries guidance — instructions that tell AI how to create and interpret capsules of that Type. For example, a "Solutions" Type might require symptoms, relevant logs, and the fix.

MCP Integration

The MCP (Model Context Protocol) server is the primary way to interact with Symbol. Save and retrieve context directly from AI conversations without leaving your workflow.
