Connect to ChatGPT
Add Symbol to ChatGPT from the Apps directory.
Symbol is available in the ChatGPT Apps directory. No API key or config file editing required — sign-in is handled via OAuth the first time you connect.
ChatGPT Apps & Connectors are available on all ChatGPT plans.
Connect Symbol
Open the Apps menu
In ChatGPT, click the more icon (…) to reveal the Apps menu. On mobile, tap your profile picture to find it.
Browse apps
Click Apps → Browse apps.
Find Symbol
Search for Symbol, select it from the results, and click Connect on the page that opens.
Approve the connection
Click Continue to Symbol. You'll be taken to the Symbol website to sign in and approve access. Once approved, ChatGPT will redirect you back with a success message.
Verify the connection
Start a new chat and ask:
"List my Symbol Types"
If ChatGPT responds with your Types (or says you have none yet), Symbol is connected.
Once connected on ChatGPT web, Symbol is automatically available in the ChatGPT mobile apps too.
Approving tool calls
ChatGPT will ask for confirmation the first time Symbol writes data (creating capsules, updating types, etc.). You can choose to remember approvals for the rest of the conversation. Read-only tools (search, list, get) typically run without prompting.
Troubleshooting
I don't see Symbol in the Apps directory
Make sure you're on a ChatGPT plan with Apps support and that your workspace admin hasn't restricted third-party connectors. Try refreshing the directory or signing out and back in.
ChatGPT says it can't reach Symbol
Open Settings → Apps & Connectors, remove Symbol, and reconnect from the Apps directory.
I'm connected but my capsules aren't showing up
Ask ChatGPT: "What Symbol tools do you have available?" to confirm the connection. If tools are listed but capsules are empty, you may not have created any yet. Create your first capsule.
