What is Symbol MCP?
Symbol MCP is Symbol's hosted Model Context Protocol server. Once you connect it, an AI assistant can read, search, create, and update the capsules in your Symbol knowledge base directly from a conversation.
Which assistants work with it?
Any MCP client. There are one-click-style setup guides for Claude and ChatGPT, and a general guide for other clients such as Cursor or Windsurf that support the Model Context Protocol.
Is it free?
Yes. The Symbol MCP server is included with every Symbol account, on the free plan too. Create an account and connect it.
Is my data used for training?
No. Your capsules are private by default and are never handed to crawlers. Only content you deliberately publish is indexable, and AI-training crawlers are additionally blocked from shared pages.
How is it different from Symbol Bridge?
Symbol MCP is the hosted server that does the reading, searching, and writing. Symbol Bridge is a small local companion that adds two things on top: attaching files from your own computer, and reading end-to-end encrypted capsules locally. Most people start with the hosted server alone.
